- A budding Funky Friday presenter
Expect the excellent mix of old, new and international funk mixed with local news and events from South Ribble Borough Council and Penwortham Town Council.
Funky Fridays also has a Shetland connection and will be also linking to a few tunes from the Isles.
March Funky Fridays will be on the 2nd at 6pm and on the 30th at 6pm

As you read this, Prescap is working towards closing on the 11th of April. With the lack of funding, they have not been able to continue. Over the last few years, Prescap, inc Preston FM have helped thousands of people, including myself to realise potential within. The staff, all but Richard will be made redundant in the last week in March.
I must convey a big thank you to them, for their patience, skill and their belief in people. I certainly wish them all well and so very much like to see them in the future.
Preston FM will continue. A transition committee has been formed and will be run by us volunteers. There are legal eagles working on unlocking tied in funds, we are also in need of donations to tide us over. If you are able to spare a bit, pop into Fox Street. If not, please pass this on.

Well back into the swing of things again. As the Council year comes to an end there are dedicated Officers looking at all the stuff that needs to be done before the end of the year. The Budget was set and Council Tax levels were looked at. As with these things there are always ideas banded about, but those who have the most votes will always win.

The Penwortham Pumpkin Patch is coming along well. A gift of 7 tonnes of compost from Global Renewables has made a big difference. There was a bit of a panic to clear it from the side of the road, but we did it.
If you would like to get involved, have a patch of land in your area that you think could be used to grow vegetables and fruit, follow the link. All are welcome.www.srtt.co.uk***************************************************************************************************************There will be no interview with the officers, two in one month would just spoil you. There will be updates for April also the need to get in your forms for the Penwortham Gala (PenFest), would you like to join the parade?
Firework night, probably Lancashire's finest free firework display hosted by The Town Council, the public raised nearly £2000. A great turn out and a great contribution to the Mayors Charity
The fireworks are still free and can be seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0S_ARJEiFnw
The Town Council has offices to let in their building, I did go and have a look, the smallest starts from £50 a week and includes many things. If you need an office or know some one who may do, give them a ring at the Community Centre
The Town Councils details are on their web site at www.penworthamtowncouncil.gov.uk
You will also find links to their Facebook site and all the info you will need.
The council meets the first Tuesday of every month, but, remember this is the Guild Year, so check the web site for details.
They are on twitter too @Mick_Cronin

Join Me on PrestonFM
Training for new volunteers
If you fancy joining the Preston FM team as a presenter, producer or journalist, then you'll be interested in the next round of training courses for new volunteers, which starts in January 2011. The courses are designed for people new to Preston FM and give you the chance to learn all about community radio - from the knobs and buttons in the studio, through to how to prepare and present an interesting radio programme.
Once you've completed the course, you can then continue to volunteer with Preston FM (if you want to) as a regular presenter, community journalist, production role or in some other way. All courses are free, and we can cover travel and childcare expenses whilst you're volunteering with us in most circumstances.
There are three courses to choose from - all covering the same content:
COURSE 1 - 10am-5pm on Sat 22nd, Sun 23rd, Sat 29th and Sun 30th January
COURSE 2 - 10am-5pm, on Sat 5th, Sun 6th, Sat 12th and 13th February
COURSE 3 - (Reserved for Under 25 year olds) 5pm-7pm on Tue 25th, Thu 27th Jan, Tue 1st Feb, Thu 3rd Feb, Tue 8th Feb, Thu 10th Feb, Tue 15th Feb and Thu 17th Feb
To apply for a place on one of the courses, please give us a call (01772 880791) or e-mail ( neild@prescap.co.ukThis e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ). Let us know which of the courses you're interested in. You need to be registered with us, which you can do online using our on-line registration form.
The deadline for applying is 5pm on Monday 10th January 2011. We'll get in touch with you as soon as possible after that to let you know whether we can offer you a place on a course.
